Alicia Keys Is Blackberryâs Global Creative Director
Alicia Keys Is Blackberryâs Global Creative Director
They say that once you go Mac, youâll never go back. I suppose that may not apply to iOS, if Alicia Keys is any indication. Before January ended, she was announced as the new Global Creative Director of Blackberry, in line with the reveal of the Blackberry 10Â (BB10).
One look at the new Blackberry operating system, and users will recognize just how big of a deal this is for the brand that has been struggling to keep its head above the water for quite some time. With its new phone, the Z10, it certainly looks like Blackberry is trying to stay in the game. Whether they succeed with the changes or not, we still have to see.

The reception of both Z10 and BB10 does seem good at this point, with reviews highlighting many good points, ranging from the Blackberry Hub to the Blackberry Keyboard to fast web browser to the high res display. There are still criticisms, naturally, with the lack of apps being one of the main things. Then again, this situation can easily change  upon official launch by the US carriers.
The bottom line: Blackberry is trying to get back on its feet, and it is doing so by going the âcoolâ route.
To be honest, while I donât think the Z10 is the prettiest phone out there, it does look better by miles than the Blackberry phones weâve gotten used to seeing. Perhaps it looks cool enough to get the results that they want.
Then there is the matter of the new Global Creative Director. Alicia Keys has star power on her own right, though it is rather funny how she had been using Instagram (not stingily) using Android or iOS. During the announcement of her new role, it was not made clear what exactly she would be doing, so we can merely assume that sheâs there to add celebrity status to the product.
And, if Blackberryâs push is still not clear to you, you might want to see the ad they aired during the Super Bowl.
So, will all these things convince you to ditch your iPhone or Android phone for a BB? While I do fall for some gimmicks, I think Iâm not that gullible. So, no, thanks. Not me.
