How many times have you posted something on Facebook, only to regret it later on? If you’re lucky, you are able to do damage control immediately. Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that many Facebook users have overlooked a tidbit or two that should not be on their profiles. Of course, if you hold to the principle that you don’t put anything on Facebook (or the Internet) that you wouldn’t be ashamed to show your mom, then you don’t have a thing to worry about.

That is probably not the case with majority of Facebook users, and this is quickly becoming a point of concern for job seekers. With employers making it a point to check social networking profiles of potential hires, your best bet is to make sure that your Facebook profile is squeaky clean. An alternative is to have a private (and I mean private, not adding anyone you’ve said hi to once at a party) profile and a “public” one.

Then there’s SimpleWash.

SimpleWash, formerly known as Facewash, is an app which you can use to clean up your Facebook profile. You simply have to log in using your Facebook or Twitter account, and you’re good to go.

How does it work?

Once you log in via the web site, the app will get working. It will scan your profile â€" comments, status updates, photos, links you have liked, and so on. The app then flags items that it deems offensive, giving you the option to delete those items.

The app obviously relies heavily on its list of offensive terms. As with most things, it is probably not perfect, but you also have the option to search for specific terms if you know what you tend to write online.

Necessary or a solution a non-issue?

The answer really depends on how you see social media. If you have no qualms about sharing whatever thoughts or details of your life online, then you might see SimpleWash as useless. For those who have let their emotions (alcohol-induced or not) take rein, then SimpleWash may be a very useful tool.
